1.) Jeggings: It’s the skinny jean trend’s inevitable conclusion: Denim so skinny and tight it officially enters legging territory. In many ways, we should have seen this coming; fashion always has been about extremes, and in the denim world that means pouring yourself into stretchy, skin-tight styles that hug every curve. Always ahead of the fashion curve, celebrities – or their stylists – were quick to embrace jeggings (jeans + leggings). Recently everyone from the Kardashians to the Hiltons have been snapped sporting versions of this hybrid by popular brands such as Paige, Current Elliot, J Brand, and Citizens of Humanity. Since giving birth to her lastest child, for example, supermom Heidi Klum has been rocking the look at nearly every Victoria’s Secret and Project Runway appearance.

But fear not, this hot new trend it not just for supermodels. Due to the thin fabric’s superstretchy quality, jeggings are surprisingly comfortable and mold nicely to any shape. And when balanced with a long tank or colorful gauzy top, they are the perfect answer to how summer casual should be done (not to mention a godsend for apple-shaped gals who want to flaunt their legs while flattering their midsections). Try this fabulous trend on with Citizens of Humanity’s Avedon Slick Skinny Leg Denim, pictured below on the trendsetting Rachel Bilson.

2.) Skinny/straight leg: Even if you’re not one to embrace fashion extremes, all kinds of skinny and straight styles are still red-hot this season. The best ones, from brands such as J Brand, Paige, Genetic Denim and Citizens of Humanity, are low to regular rise and skim the body while allowing the wearer to breathe and move comfortably (jeans that feel like sausage casings are not fashionable, ever). Whether you’re in the market for a super skinny style that can be tucked into high boots during the day and paired with heels at night or a more modest leg that’s straight from the knee to the leg opening, there are more than enough styles this season to satisfy you. Styles we are currently recommending include Genetic Denim’s cigarette-leg Shane and Rock Revival’s figure-friendly Chrissie straight leg.

3.) Acid wash/tie dye: Perhaps only appropriate for the younger crowd – we’re talking high school and college age – who have not sported this trend in the past, acid wash and tie dye denim appears to be making something of a comeback. Still only a blip on the fashion radar, this is a look that has yet to be widely tested beyond L.A. and trendsetters such as Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, and even little Dakota Fanning! We’re withholding judgment until it manages to withstand the test of time (like dog years, in fashion terms this translates to a few months or more). But if celebrites and fashion magazines are to be trusted, this look IS back, and it’s usually in the form of skinny jeans. For those brave souls who want to go out on a fashion limb and be able to declare THEY WORE IT BEFORE IT WAS POPULAR, be ready to give this style a whirl!
4.) Elaborate back pockets: What’s one of the best compliments a girl can receive? “You’re smart?” “Great laugh?” “Nice feet?” Um, no. For most girls, it’s more likely to be something along the lines of “Nice butt!” And what better way to direct the eyes to the derriere than fabulous back pockets? Done best by brands such as Rock Revival, True Religion, Siwy, William Rast, and Rock & Republic, sexy pockets can take an otherwise boring pair of jeans and make them unbelieveably hot. Flap pockets are especially in demand, as they have the uncanny abilty to make a flat butt look curvier while highlighting an already perfect one. Rock Revival’s popular Heather boocut, for instance, gives any wearer a great butt with heavily stitched fleur de lis flap pockets that are not for the shy.

True Religion, meanwhile, has practically built a denim empire based on sexy back flap pockets (with a little help from some great contrast stitching and twisted seams). Try their 3N Joey Rainbow Flared Bootcut Jeans, pictured below.

For girls who aren’t afraid to be a little edgy when it comes to back pockets, William Rast styles such as the Belle flare has longer pockets that extend onto the back of the leg. Rock & Republic’s Kurt Flap Pocket jeans, meanwhile, features fantastic ultility pockets and a longer inseam for leggy denim fans.

On the flapless-but-still-fabulous front, we’re loving Siwy’s tulip-shaped back pockets, found on styles such as the Harley Slim Bootcut Jeans.

The slightly higher rise in the back all but eliminates the risk of flashing more or your assests than desired and the lightweight denim is great for summer.
5.) Bootcut forever: There are very few certainties when peering into the fashion crystal ball, but one thing is for certain: Bootcut jeans will always be in style. The harsh reality is skinny jeans and its ilk are not for everyone. Some would even argue they should be reserved for those blessed with extremely small hips. And thighs. And butt. In other words, men. The bootcut, on the other hand, is universally flattering. What other style makes everyone’s legs look longer and body more balanced? And, obviously, it can’t be beat when you want to wear your boots under your jeans. Not just any bootcut will do, however. Though high-waisted styles are experiencing a resurgence this season, we maintain that sexy = low rise, at any age. Something like Rock Revival’s Gwen Bootcut jeans, featuring an 8” rise, is about as high as you want to go (unless you’re Jessica Simpson, who’s unfortunate “mom jeans” incident should scare anyone away from very high waists).

This season, some of the best bootcut styles are coming from brands such as 7 For All Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, Rock Revival, True Religion and Rock & Republic.
